Liu Yang: Wing Defense Hero at Shandong Taishan

Liu Yang is a Chinese astronaut who was born in Zibo, Shandong Province on July 15, 1980. She graduated from the Beijing Institute of Technology with a degree in aerospace engineering and joined the China National Space Administration (CNSA) in 2004.

In 2010, Liu was selected as one of two female astronauts for the Shenzhou X mission to the Tiangong space station. The other astronaut was Wang Yaping, who later became known as the first woman in space.

The Shenzhou X mission was a historic achievement for China's space program. It marked the first time that a Chinese woman had flown into space and it demonstrated China's ability to send humans into space without the use of external fuel tanks.

After returning from the mission, Liu was promoted to deputy director of the CNSA's Astronaut Training Center. This mission also marked a significant milestone for China's space program, as it was the first manned flight to occur in orbit.
